-::[ Leadership Gift Opportunities & Recognition ]::-

We seek $10Million by Fall 2009 for equipment, program start up and endowment to realize the teaching, research, public policy and public program mission of the Carsey-Wolf Center, including the development of the Environmental Media Initiative, Media Ownership Project, year-round programming in the Pollock Film Theater, Media Internship Project, and to respond to new and innovative initiatives.

We invite individuals, foundations, and corporations to join with our leadership donors to address our remaining capital enhancement needs and launch our endowment effort.

We are pleased to recognize a major commitment by permanently associating your gift with the Carsey-Wolf Center at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Some of our most prestigious naming opportunities are still available.

•» The Carsey-Wolf Center for Film, Television, and New Media Funded by Marcy Carsey and Dick Wolf
The Carsey-Wolf Center will occupy a donor-funded wing of a new academic building. Its public film theater, production suite, archive, media labs, classrooms, and meeting rooms will provide the arena for dynamic, new curricula, public programming, film series, and residencies. Already recognized by university and national awards for their teaching and research, the faculty will bring new programs and scholarship to the public as well as to their students. The Carsey-Wolf Center will provide an intellectual as well as a physical space in which the university and the film and television industries can interact through classes, research projects, and colloquia.

•» Pollock Public Film Theater Funded by Dr. Joe and Helene Pollock and the Pollock Family
The most prestigious and public naming opportunity besides the Center itself, the Pollock Theater of the Carsey-Wolf Center will provide the space for year-round programming of a diverse array of films and filmmakers from across the country and the world. The heart of the Center, the Pollock Theater will be a classroom by day and public theater at night — a space in which students, industry, and community come together. The new facility will be equipped to show everything from early silent films to the latest in digital filmmaking. The theater and its film programming will give students and the public an opportunity to engage a global film culture that is currently inaccessible to them.

•» Production Labs $1.5 Million
The Production Labs will provide state-of-the-art facilities that currently do not exist on the UCSB campus. A unique feature of the UCSB undergraduate media experience is that production training takes place only in the context of a strong liberal arts education. Students learn to make individual and crew films while pursuing an intensive curriculum in media history, theory, and criticism. In this context, the Production Labs will provide our students the space and technology they need to pursue creative, independent, experimental work. The new facility will include a sound stage, animation room, and two demo/screening rooms for small production classes.

•» Michael Douglas Lobby and Reception Hall Funded by Michael Douglas ('68)
This prestigious hall at the gateway of the Pollock Theater will be an important public venue for receptions and special events, and a symbol of the Center’s place at the crossroads of the university, the public, and the film and television industries.

•» Sound Stage $1 Million
A prominent feature of the Carsey-Wolf Center, the Sound Stage will provide our students with the facilities they need to create film and media. The Sound Stage will be used from morning until night by our students in Film and Media Studies and related departments.

•» Palm Garden Plaza $1 Million
The formal entrance to the Carsey-Wolf Center, as well as the associated academic building, will provide a dramatic approach for the complex. This 2,000 square foot plaza is both the entrance and an extension of the Douglas Lobby.

•» Patio Terrace $1 Million
This outdoor patio connects to the Douglas Lobby and the green room. It will be a prominent gathering space for public receptions, as well as a place where faculty, students and visiting industry fellows come together for informal conversation. This 2000 square foot space will also include a café, lending itself to casual interaction and discussion before and after screenings.

•» Wallis Annenberg Conference Room Funded by The Annenberg Foundation
The Annenberg Conference Room will be a premiere space in the new Social Science and Media building that will be the home of not only the Carsey-Wolf Center but also the Department of Communication and the Department of Film and Media Studies, as well as two other departments and three research centers. This prestigious space, located on the top floor of the building with a terrace and striking views, will feature seminars, symposia, lectures, public events, and meetings with industry leaders and policy makers.

•» Film and Television Archive $500,000
Archival space, housing an important collection of television video and film archives, will provide storage for UCSB’s specialized archives and collections that are primarily intended for preservation and consultation by researchers and scholars. Temperature and humidity controls are essential.

•» Scott and Jennifer Frank Screening Room Funded by Scott ('82) and Jennifer Frank
The Scott and Jennifer Frank Screening Room will be a vibrant teaching space that will serve students, researchers and visiting filmmakers. It will serve as a Production/Demo Lab, as well as a screening facility for student dailies, production demonstration and for visiting researchers and filmmakers who want to view films in the Center’s archive.

•» Screening Room $250,000
A screening room that will adjoin the Scott and Jennifer Frank Screening Room will be a vibrant teaching space that will serve the students, researchers and visiting filmmakers. It will serve as a Production/Demo Lab, as well as a screening facility for student dailies, production demonstration and for visiting researchers and filmmakers who want to view films in the Center’s archive.

Founding gifts of $25,000-$100,000 will be honored on a Donor Wall in the Carsey-Wolf Center. Programmatic naming opportunities for teaching, research, and program support are available. Funding minimums and namings require UC approval and are subject to review at the time of discussion with a donor.
