Filmmaker Garrett Scott
was supposed to speak following the screening of his
film "Occupation:Dreamland" this
coming Friday, March 10. However, Garrett died from
a heart arrhythmia last week (two days before his
film won the prize for the "Truth is Stranger
than Fiction" category
at the Independent Spirit awards). Magic lantern Films
will be celebrating Garrett's life and work when
we screen his award winning film this Friday at 7:00
and 9:30.
Garrett Scott’s debut film Cul de Sac: A Suburban
War Story (2002) is about an ex-marine named Shawn
Nelson who drove a stolen tank through the streets of
Clairemont, CA, tearing through parked cars as if they
were sheets of paper. Scott will be in residence at UCSB
from March 7-10, 2006.

UCSB alumnus Garrett Scott has attracted critical acclaim
with his recently released film Occupation: Dreamland
(www.occupationdreamland.com),
a film documenting a unit of U.S. Marines deployed during
the occupation of Fallujah in the winter of 2004.
